needs every democrat that they can from the white house point of view. and scott brown is considered such a strong possibility for the republican side to take away the seat, in other words, that, as you said, the democrats are pulling in the big guns. >> erin, what do you think? is this clearly an important race for the democrats, more so than the republicans somehow? >> well, it is, but do remember that when scott brown, as a senator, scott brown and as a republican has often vote the with democrats when the white house needs him to, so even though the white house would like a certain democrat and a certain vote for their proposals, scott brown is somebody that they could court if he then still wins that seat as a republican. >> do you think this is a do-over for them not necessarily helping out the democratic candidate in the race against scott brown? >> it may be. yes. it absolutely may be, but, remember, that the white house has a lot more political capital now after the president won re-election and the numbers are back on his side, where they weren't at the beginning of 2010 wh

want to bring in our political power panel for monday morning. kerry rudolph brown. democratic jat gist jamie harrison. republican strategist chip saltzman. great to have you here. i know you were listening to the congressman there. right now democrats do appear to be winning the debate in the court of public opinion. 60% favoring the hiking of taxes on incomes over $250,000. but, chip, i want to ask you, how much longer can the gop continue its posturing on this? because it's kind of a faye ta come plea that this is going to happen. taxes are going to go up no matter what they do. >> first of all, whenever you poll somebody should we raise taxes on the rich people everybody says yes. that poll is meaningless to me. yeah, i think something's going to get done. we've got 22 days. the president's got a fairly strong hand on here. if nothing happens then all the taxes go up. but i think that the republicans have got to really put spending cuts at the front of this table. we can't just get a commitment to talk about them. if the republicans go along with a tax increase which is as most peop

shows governor patrick and senator scott brown with the highest favorability numbers in the state at 60% and 58% respectively. brown leads 47 to 39 against a generic democrat in a hypothetical race to replace kerry. actress and native kentuckyian ashley judd has not decided if she'll run for u.s. senate in 2014 but senate minority leader mitch mcconnell already has numbers that are turning heads. his campaign conducted internal polling showing judd narrowly trails mcconnell by just four points. the campaign also singled out some of judd's statements and positions on things like coal, abortion, and obama care. they believe will hurt her chances in the solidly red blue grass state. their numbers show mcconnell's lead shooting up to 20 points after people found out that information. former nebraska senator chuck haggle's position on gay rights is, quote, unacceptable according to the human rights campaign. the organization is the latest group to speak out against the former senator who is being considered by president obama for defense secretary. in a statement the human rights campaign sa
